SRM Termite Treatment in Sydney

Although Termites is often called “white ants”, they are not ants. Termite damage has an estimated annual cost of $700 million dollars in Australia. 1 in 3 Australian houses/properties are attacked by termites. So as per data when doing new construction pre construction termite barrier should be done.

The main pest termite species in Australia are:

  • Coptotermes acinaciformis, subterranean termite.
  • Coptotermes frenchi, C. lacteus.
  • Mastotermes darwiniensis, giant northern termite.
  • Cryptotermes genus.
  • Cryptotermes brevis, West Indian drywood termite.
  • Heterotermes ferox.
  • Schedorhinotermes intermedius.
  • Nasutitermes fumigatus.

Among the Termite control Sydney genera Coptotermes has the highest number of pest species of any genus, with species known to cause extensive damage. Less than 10% of dry wood termites are pests, but they infect wooden structures and furniture in tropical, subtropical and other regions. Dampwood termites only attack lumber material exposed to rainfall or soil.

Termites silently destroy your house and you probably won’t even find out that they are thriving in your property until it is too late. The life cycle of a termite begins with an egg but is different from that of an ant in that it goes through a developmental process called incomplete metamorphosis, with egg, nymph and adult stages. Nymphs resemble small adults and go through a series of moults as they grow. In some species, eggs go through four moulting stages and nymphs go through three.

Nymphs first moult into workers, and then some workers go through further moulting and become soldiers or alates; workers become alates only by moulting into alate nymphs. The development of nymphs into adults can take months; the time period depends on food availability, temperature, and the general population of the colony.

Since nymphs are unable to feed themselves, workers must feed them, but workers also take part in the social life of the colony and have certain other tasks to accomplish such as foraging, building or maintaining the nest or tending to the queen.

Alates:

Alates are future Kings or Queens. When fully winged they leave their parent colony in search of suitable nesting sites to start new colonies. Although this may happen during other months of the year, they generally take flight in the earlier summer months of November to December when the temperature is humid and similar to that of their nest. They are usually darker in colour and have formed compound eyes. After the colonising flight, they drop their wings and the males follow the females to a suitable nesting area, somewhere moist with decaying wood, such as a base of a tree.

Owing to their wood-eating habits, many termite species can do great damage to unprotected buildings and other wooden structures. Their habit of remaining concealed often results in their presence being undetected until the timbers are severely damaged, leaving a thin layer of a wall that protects them from the environment.
